Gut feeling PSA
It's hot out here
A quick summary: It’s Sunday and today we’re exploring:
Gut feelings
Things I’m doing offline
A little survey
I did not have anyone edit this so if you see a typo, be relieved that I’m a human and not a robot.
Offline Reflection
an intersection of themes and ideas
I’m reading a book about our brains. I just read about a study where the subjects’ brains were picking up on something before their conscious minds could access that information. “…the information was being delivered in the form of a ‘hunch.’”
Based on this information, I’d say our gut feelings are actually pretty sophisticated. It just takes a bit of time for our conscious mind to catch up.
Offline Things
stuff I’ve been up to and discovering when I’m not on my phone
I’m reading Superfandom: How Our Obsessions Are Changing What We Buy and Who We Are. Relatedly, I am launching a new project (⅔ professional, ⅓ personal) on July 10th and I’m excited to share about it here FIRST next week!
Professionally, we launched Dan Pelosi’s Grossy World membership site! It’s been so fun to see all of his Grossy Girls connect in the chat rooms and today he hosts his first live Sunday dinner!
Adam and I celebrated 16 years of marriage this past Friday! After a very full and busy week, we walked down to the local coffee shop that stays open late on Fridays. There was cold wine and hot pizza and no air conditioning and it was lovely. We’ve also been watching all the Mission Impossible movies. I now know that I can hold my breath for 1 minute and 20 seconds (I had to time myself after watching five of these movies).
It’s been REALLY hot here. As I’m writing this, it’s cooled down a bit. Over the past week, I tried to spend time in the coolest part of the house watching through the Mission: Impossible movies.
I’m snacking on: Medjool dates. And cottage cheese/soft boiled egg topped with honey and chili crisps.
A Little Survey
help my new project
I am working on my new project and I have a few questions. I included my answers so it feels reciprocal. Feel free to reply if you’d like:
Are you a part of any clubs/membership/communities (paid or free)? I pay for a handful of Substacks (The Preamble, Link in Bio, Feed Me, and The Culture Study), I pay for Who Weekly’s Patreon, and I subscribe to Molly Baz’s recipe club.
Are there any book/series, movies, podcasts, shows, celebrities, influencers, or subcultures that you’d say you’re a huge fan of but don’t spend money on? The band Coldplay (I went to about 9 of their concerts between 2005-2010) and The Bachelor franchise by way of Game of Roses podcast. Perhaps the move You’ve Got Mail?
If you’ve purchased merch, which piece of merch do you love or cherish the most? All of my Who Weekly merch (some aren’t sold anymore)
P.S. You’ve enjoyed this newsletter over the years, you can help contribute to the cost of publishing. I don’t have any intention of putting up a paywall but you can Venmo me @alliepal or send a tip via Paypal (this account is under my maiden name Jocson because Paypal makes it nearly impossible to change your name). Thank you to all who tip me!
